Ads, ads, and more ads: What makes Instagram ads so effective?

Open Instagram, it will most likely take not more than a minute to see an advertisement for something you never knew you needed. To test I opened my own Instagram account, and it took scrolling past only three posts before I saw a soda stream ad. But these are not the only ads on Instagram. Instagram is flooded with advertisements, Instagram ads are clearly marked, so why are they so effective? 

Types of Ads on Insta: 

            There are many different types of advertisement on Instagram. In a Brax article “The Different Types of Instagram Ads and When to Use Them”, they highlight the many different kinds of Instagram ads that exist. There’s the carousel ad that shows a revolving set of images that helps companies show their variety in products. There are shopping ads which will allow you to link directly to the website to buy the product. These are only a few of the many different options for advertisements that Instagram offers. 

Why are these ads so effective? :

Instagram is marketers dream with all the different options for fullending ads of their products into consumer’s explore pages. The post “TikTok vs Snapchat vs Instagram: What Marketers Need to Know” from Later Blog says that over 200 million businesses use Instagram

Instagram ads effectiveness can be seen through a Marketing Dive article that says, “one-third of survey respondents said they had bought something directly from an Instagram ad”. There are many factors into what makes Instagram ads effective. It could be the way Instagram offers more options in types of ad posts than other social media outlets. It could be the way Instagram’s demographics skew towards more women and to older members of Gen-Z and millennials. However, realistically it is probably a combination of all these factors that make Instagram ads just so effective.

Instagram is flooded with ads, ads, and more ads. They have so many different types of ads that it is hard to be on a social media outlet for more than a couple of minutes without being tempted to buy something you don’t really need.
